I find inspiration all around me–from the most obvious places to the most inconspicuous places. One thing I certainly like to do is pass along these inspirations to those around me. For this reason I decided to have a blog dedicated to a daily dose of inspiration where I will post something (a book, a website, an article, a movie, a song, a piece of art, a location, a person, etc.) that’s inspiring…I’d like to do this so that myself and others will have a daily reminder of the good in the world where there are so many things out there that can bring us down.

TOMS

dancing in the rainThe good news is that you are indescribably beautiful. If a mirror existed that reflected back your true essence, you would be awed by the pure, radiant beauty of your soul.

The great news is that you are bathed in the healing, protective glow of God’s unconditional love in every moment. God’s infinite love for you is the celestial music of your soul. Every moment presents a fresh opportunity to express it, to give voice to it, to let it burst forth in celebratory song.

When you celebrate life, you become keenly aware of how each moment presents you with a unique opportunity to express your divine nature.

Even when thunderclouds loom, you do not want to waste one minute of life feeling anything other than joy and gratitude. Written by Phil Bolsta

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain. -Vivian Greene

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend dosomething.org’s “Social Action Boot Camp” in New York City. I completely blown away by the amazing people aged 18-24 who came from all over the United States (even as far as California & Florida!) I attended four workshops: Starting Your Own Not-for-Profit, Recruiting and Managing Volunteers, Succession Planning, and How to Make a Living Giving. Each session inspired me and and gave me lots of useful ideas! Even more amazing than the sessions was the people. Divine Bradley, the “social mogul”, created a Non-Profit when he was 17 years old called “Team Revolution” and he wants to build community centers all over the U.S. He is Role model of Polo Ralph Laurens G.I.V.E. campaign and subject of the critically acclaimed and award-winning documentary, The Hip Hop Project. His resourcefulness and drive was a true inspiration and not only was he a key note speaker he presented at two of the workshops I attended. Definitely google him! Another great speaker came, JJ Ramberg. She is the co-founder of goodsearch.com a great site that I love where everytime you make a search 1 penny goes to a charity of your choice (and if it’s not there you can add it!). For instance, the ASPCA has raised over $700,000 through goodsearchs alone! She was also an anchor on CNN and host of MSNBC’s “Your Business” the only television show dedicated to oissues affecting small business owners. Shes also worked with microfinance organizations in Uganda and India. At the end of the speakers and sessions we had the opportunity of a lifetime! There was a room full of amazing individuals…people like the President of VH1, CEO’s of banks, the song writer who wrote Miley Cyrus’s hit song “Party in the USA, and many many more. We had 2 minutes to pitch them our project and hear their feedback. At the end 3 people were giving 1,000 Do Somthing Grants! Afterwards they gave us the opportunity to network and speak with them. I was so excited because I heard throughout the day that this guy who was helping run the Do Something conference had worked with TOMS shoes and I decided this was someone I wanted to talk to! I started a conversation with him and asked about his experience with TOMS. His name was Mike Hammer and he was telling me that he was the director of campus outreach and he went to school in California and was with Blake in his condo where the idea of TOMS all started. He went on a shoe drop in South Africa and told me how humbling his experience was. It’s so amazing to see how TOMS wasn’t well known once and how it has ballooned into such a recognizable name. I was just so happy to hear his experience and insight on his passions. I asked if he did campus visits and he said definitely so I grabbed his business card and I hope to get him to Eastern!

It’s True

“Some people make things happen, some watch things happen, while others wonder what has happened.” Gaelic Proverb

you are the cerebral painter.

you paint my soul with beautiful

images so clear yet rippled with

judgement, uncertainty, and time.

chasing after puddles

seeking clarity

heart on fire

seeking ambitiously.

looking for answers

tip-toeing, don’t want to fall.

which door to open?

which door to close?

who is the cerebral painter?

pages filled with things to do.

distracted by a world full of sin.

am i the cerebral painter?

manifest thoughts

helping others to help myself

stay focused.

stop filling pages

tear them out.

toss your anxietes in the

air and watch.

watch as it falls gracefully down

and rejoice in knowing that

you are not the cerebral painter.

If

If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would.
